We’ve been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. Accumulation numbers have increased for much of the state. See graphic below. We are now looking at the potential for a widespread 3-6 inches of snow with pockets potentially higher. The system has quite a bit of energy bringing possible heavy periods of snowfall that will more than likely overpower the above freezing road temps. If you are out and about, stay safe. Have a great snowy Saturday and don’t forget to change those clocks ahead an hour tonight so that we can mess up how we feel for awhile. 🤪😂 WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM THIS MORNING TO 3 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON WHAT: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Northwest winds will gust around 45 to 55 mph. WHERE: Portions of north-central Maryland as well as western Loudoun County in Virginia and northern Fauquier County in Virginia. WHEN: From 6 AM this morning to 3 PM EST this afternoon. Rain will change to snow between 7 AM and 9 AM this morning. A band of moderate to heavy snow is most likely through late this morning before tapering off to a lighter snow early this afternoon. IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds couldbring down tree branches. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Visibility may be reduced to below one-quarter mile at times. Brief near blizzard conditions are possible. Snowfall rates around one to two inches per hour are expected this morning. The warm temps today will directly affect accumulation from this system. However, this system has some power behind it though that could produce heavy snowfall rates. If it falls fast enough we could see accumulation on roadways. The NWS has placed us under a winter weather advisory.

Probably at least a delay, but a closure isn't off the table either. 4 Snowballs = A delay is pretty much inevitable. There is also a 60% chance of a closure. 5 Snowballs = Guaranteed delay. You can also party, because schools will almost certainly be closed. (*School Status Predictions are for #FCPS, #CCPS, #MCPS, #HCPSS and surrounding counties) |
